Duran Duran announces guitarist Andy Taylor has Stage 4 cancer
The guitarist will undergo treatment in the UK
Andy Taylor’s manager has revealed the long-time metal legend is suffering from Stage 4 cancer.
Taylor, 41, and his band were devastated to announce the news on social media last night.
“It’s with much sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and devoted brother, brother-in-law, our beloved father and son, Andy Taylor, has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer,” they said.
“As we have already revealed here, Andy was diagnosed with this cancer in March and has been receiving medical treatment in the UK since then.
“This has been a huge blow to our family and we would like to thank everyone here in Australia and all over the world for their well wishes.
“He is in great hands at Cancer Research UK and we will be taking over the management of this situation once more soon.
“We have asked him to stay in the UK and have arranged for him to receive medical treatment in order to maintain his quality of life.
“We will not go into further detail at this moment in time.
“We hope that, as he is receiving treatment for this cancer, he will be back with us in Australia soon.
“We ask everyone to respect his privacy at this very difficult time and we will have more to say when the time is right. In the meantime, we love you Andy.”
Taylor was diagnosed with cancer in March after it was found to have spread to his liver from his gallbladder.
The guitarist said he hoped he could live to play shows at his peak when he was healthy again.
He added: “I’m just going to put my foot up and be good and take it easy and just have fun. And then I really need to get on with things and be able to get back in the saddle.”
Taylor was found to be in remission after a successful operation, but he said he wasn’t in a good place mentally.
